Engagement in Historic St. Petersburg

Engagement picture in Old St. Pete

(Above) While strolling by Bay Walk in St. Petersburg, Florida, I created this picture using the “Bay Walk” as a geographic marker. The lighting made this a seemingly dreamy-looking picture because of the strong backlight.

The very pretty Andrea leans up against a red wall for a stunning candid.

(Above) This red wall shouted to me “OVER HERE” as we walked by it. After explaining to Andrea and Khalid what I had in mind, I captured this stunning image of the “bride-to-be”.

Engaged couple posing before a vibrant red wall.

(Above) In following, I asked Khalid and Andrea to casually converse among each other while I waited for the right moment to ‘click’ the shutter. The laughter came after I wittingly made a remark that got everyone laughing including Khlaid and Andrea.

Flowing hair and romance captured.

(Above) Another great example of the use of strong backlight. Of course, you had better have a reflector of some sort to balance out the exposure values [a little tech talk there for the photogs reading this post]. Check out the ‘bokeh’ behind them too [another techie word for the quality of blur a camera lens can produce].

A little fun with expressions in this engagement photo.

(Above) A candid in nature, this photo was a natural occurrence. Aside from placing them in the correct light, I asked Khalid and Andrea to just look, well, ‘engaged and playful’. Hey… it worked!.

An urban-looking picture for engagements.

(Above) A garage door by any other name is a boring thing to look at. However, it can be redeemed when it is used properly in a photo. Moreover, the strong late afternoon sun gave this image some strong contrast which contributed visual interest to the photo.

Engagement photo at twilight.

(Above) A cute photo. Nothing more. Variety is a wonderful thing, but never forget the ‘bread and butter’ shots.

I met Khalid and Andrea in Old St. Pete for an afternoon of engagement pictures. As I typically do for engagement sessions, I scout an area weeks before a shoot and then present the idea to my client. Once agreed, we’re off to create some photographs. Old St. Petersburg is a beautiful location with lots of variety, color and character. During their session we walked through the more popular venues as I created each memory for the soon-to-be newlyweds. We all had a lot of fun cracking jokes and taking in the scenery while I captured their session pictures. Congratulations Khalid and Andrea!!!
